A living monument to the hardy pioneers who forded the wildly exotic rivers and streams, and scrambled through the rugged subtropical rainforest in search of their fortunes, Shantytown has grown to comprise over 30 historic buildings, gold panning, working steam trains, a multi-denominational church, 300-seat conference and events centre, licensed bar and tearooms, confectionery store, curio and collectables shop, 19th century Marsden Valley School and children's playground, and Chinatown Miners Village.

Lake Brunner Where The Trout Die Of Old Age
Fishing for trout on New Zealands West Coast of the South Island is a treat not to be missed.
Brent Beadle is based at Moana on the shores of beautiful Lake Brunner where the trout die of old age.
Brent is the longest serving local guide, 15 years in the area and he is a member of the N.Z. Professional Fishing Guides Assn.(NZPFGA). Both Brents boats, the 'Madeline Ruth' and 'Sneakuponum' are surveyed to government requirements and Brent has Department of Conservation concessions to fish in the area.
It is a requirement of the NZPGA that your guide meets these lawful requirements.
