Eftpos glitch hits supermarkets

Foodstuffs says an eftpos outage at lower North Island New World, Pak n' Save and Four Square stores this morning occurred after its systems were unable to cope with today's leap day date. The outage, which has now been resolved, affected many stores across the lower North Island from early this morning.

Ultra fast Broadband ready by July

Internet speeds up to 100 times faster than existing broadband will be available in New Plymouth by July this year. Waikato business Ultrafast Fibre has the government contract to lay the fibre optic cables for ultrafast broadband in this part of the country.

New Plymouth to welcome Volendam

For the first time in over a decade, a cruise ship will be calling in to New Plymouth’s Port Taranaki. Holland America Line’s ms Volendam will arrive in port Tuesday 27DEC for a 12-hour visit, during which its 1400 passengers will have the day to experience ‘Naki hospitality and activities.

Parihaka story told at Maata

In 1865 the settlement of Parihaka was founded by the Taranaki Prophets Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi as a spiritual refuge. Over two thousand Maori joined them and their non-violent resistance to European occupation of their confiscated lands and their subsequent expulsion from the village are incidents woven into the country’s conscience.

NEW PLYMOUTH, 27 Sept. - As twilight descended on Mount Taranaki on Monday night, so the sun set on Namibia’s Rugby World Cup 2011 campaign, outshone by a young Welsh team that pounced on the Welwitschias' mistakes. Playing their second match in five days, the exhausted Namibians were unable to contain the Welsh backline, which ran in 10 of their 12 tries in the 81-7 victory.
